Repair & Maintenance Services: Intelligence and One-Stop Solutions Become Industry Trends
Qingdao CIMC Reefer Container was named to the World Economic Forum's latest global "Lighthouse Factory" list, becoming the industry's first Lighthouse Factory. The facility has implemented over 50 AI-driven digital applications, achieving a 32% reduction in manufacturing lead time and a 47% reduction in product defect rate. Its AI acoustic knock detection system can complete full-point automatic inspection within two minutes with over 80% accuracy.
At the port level, Yantai Port has launched a 1,500 sqm standardized container repair zone, introducing an integrated "inspection + repair + LCL consolidation" service model. Containers can now undergo complete inspection and repair within the port, reducing turnaround time by 1 to 2 days. Abu Dhabi's Khalifa Port has brought in TW Steel to provide container manufacturing and repair services, covering structural repair, flooring replacement, door seal repair, painting and coating, and reefer unit maintenance – a full-spectrum solution designed to reduce container downtime.
COSCO Shipping has also introduced three smart maintenance devices through its subsidiary Xin San Li: a reefer frequency conversion test bench, an AGV container transporter, and a precision lifting tool – covering the entire chain from diagnostics to transport to repair.
The vessel repair market is also heating up. Zhoushan Port completed 2,523 international vessel repair calls between January and November 2025, solidifying its position as one of the world's key ship repair hubs.
